My husband, daughter, and I will be attending a CPA convention in Williamsburg and then vacationing in Virginia Beach for a couple of days before our return July 21. This is a yearly event for us, attending the conventions, and Allison looks forward to renewing her friendships with our friends' children. Hope you have a good time. I am one of 3 unindicted co-conspirators organizing the annual Duck Race benefitting K.C. Geiger Park. (Rees is the brains behind this - enough said.) The 5th annual is Aug. 10. Buy a ticket for $5 or die! eventually.

I pseudonymously committed an opinion column "Cynics' Clinic" from '92 to '95. It never caught on, because it derogated America's single largest demographic group: the Stupid.

"Cynics' Clinic" ran weekly in the Evening Leader and tragically resulted in a brief stint for myself in the manging editor's chair. You read that right. I stayed there for 8 months between March and June, 1995, leaving when I realized 'tis better to be paid nothing for nothing than too little for too much. Shakespeare did not write that, incidentally; along with a great many other things.

"What other interesting stuff can you tell us about yourself and your family?" (20th):

My great-great-grandfather Johnathan Botkin had 11 kids by 2 wives (consecutive), which may explain why he volunteered to fight in the Civil War. My grandfather Lowell Botkin had red hair. My parents were both only children and were second cousins, which explains all that need be said about myself. Defying the paternal contribution to their gene pools, my kids are all athletic, bright, and attractive, although they do tend to get overly sarcastic.

Graduate of Purdue University in Civil Engineering. Will be married September 24 to Marge Backs. Presently employed by Jones & Henry Consulting Firm in Toledo. Marge and Chris plan to live in Toledo after their big day.

I still live in Miamisburg -- as you can already see from my address. I've become "adoptive" mother of 2 cats. That's the closest I'll come to having kids now. I work at Miami Valley Hospital -- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit -- as a staff nurse 7A - 7P 3 days a week plus. This year I received a special recognition at MVH. I received Nurse Recognition Award for Excellence in the area of Clinical Practice. I was one of 12 selected from 450 nominees in several areas.

Linda and I have learned what it means to be parents to teens. We have stayed busy with Friday night football, cheerleading, piano, and numerous school activities. We did take time out to go on a Caribbean cruise. Our hard work parenting has paid off, Kurt and Kristine both are excellent students and make us proud. Kristine is a straight (A) student and Class President. Kurt is Vice-President of Fulton County FFA Chapter and made all Western Kentucky Conference in football.
