Thomas Worthington, the 6th Governor of Ohio and one of the first two U. S. Senators from Ohio, built this beautiful mansion on a 5,000 acre estate three miles off SR 104. Surrounding the elegant Georgian-style mansion is a wash house, springhouse, barn, tenant house, smoke house, and beautiful formal gardens. From the scenic overlook, tourists can view Ross County from the exact spot where "The Great Seal of the State of Ohio" was painted. The site is open Memorial Day through Labor Day, except Monday and Tuesday. Open Saturday and Sunday only from Labor Day until October 31.

The 144 year old Majestic Theatre has never in its history ceased operations, and thereby earns its claim to fame as the nations oldest continuously operating Theatre.

Featured programming includes weekend discount double feature movies,community theatre plays, plus local and regional performing artists.


Pump House Art Gallery

This historic Art Gallery is located in the Chillicothe's beautiful Yoctangee Park. Known as the "Crown Jewel" of the city of Chillicothe, the Pump House was built in 1882 by the Chillicothe Gas Light and Water Works as the water pumping station to fight the fires that for decades burned down major areas of the city. Later it served as the water source for the city's residents. Artists, preservationists, and area community members restored this magnificent gothic style building into a beautiful art gallery. The gallery offers10 to 12 exhibits each year ranging from art shows,to quilt shows and historic displays. There is no admission charge and the gallery is open Tuesday through Friday, 11:00 am to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The Mound City Visitor Center of Hopewell Culture National Historic Park is three miles north of Chillicothe on SR 104. At the park you will learn the story of the prehistoric culture which influenced the eastern half on North America between 2200 and 1500 years ago. The Hopewell are noted for their construction of large geometric earthworks and mounds, and for their finely crafted artifacts.

The Mound City Visitor Center features exhibits of original Hopewellian artifacts, a 17 minute video "Legacy of the Mound Builders", and books on the Hopewell culture, Native Americans and the National Parks. Visitors may also tour the mounds and earthworks where brochures, signs and audio programs present the story of this 2000 year old culture. The visitor center is open daily from 8:30 am to 5: p.m. with extended summer hours. Admission for adults 17 and older is $2.00 Admission is free December through February.
