Instructions:  Preparing for lecture in this course consists of (1) traditional textbook readings (Beekman and Beekman), (2) hands-on textbook tutorials using Microsoft Office 2010 (Shelly and Vermaat), and (3) SAM 2010, a computer-based Microsoft Office trainer and evaluator.  The textbooks provide end-of-chapter knowledge building exercises as well as Web sites with practice tests and other exercises.  SAM trains you and evaluates your practical abilities in using Microsoft Office.  The assignments shown below include detailed use of these learning resources. 

          This document is tentative.  If you miss lecture, you are responsible for checking the course Moodle for updated versions of this hand-out.  Complete all assignments shown prior to that day’s lecture unless indicated otherwise.  Some details of the SAM 2010 training and assessment schedule may be distributed separately.  Students are responsible for checking the Moodle for updates to this hand-out.  All graded assignments are marked.  You should enter the due dates in your planner immediately.  Homework, per se, is not collected or graded.

·       Hands-on Homework:  Use your NetID and password to login to Heidelberg’s Moodle server at http://numu.heidelberg.edu/moodle/course/view.php?id=1564 no later than 10 PM today.  Then, enroll in the Moodle for this course.  The enrollment key is 30115.  Cookies must be turned on in your browser.

·       Do Shelly “OFF” Chapter (Office 2010 and Windows 7):  Hands-on Textbook Tutorial and Learn It Online.  Review Chapter Summary.  Do In the Lab 1, 2, 3, and 4, pp. OFF 78-80.  Save both to Drive M and to your USB flash drive.  

·       Do Shelly Learn It Online:  Browse to http://www.scsite.com/office2010/learn, select the Introductory text, the correct chapter, and do the Flashcards, Practice Test, Computer Genius, Wheel of Terms, and the Crossword Puzzle.  Download and review the Chapter Reinforcement Exercises and Student Data Files.

·       Do Hands-on Homework:  (i) Access your M drive as demonstrated in lecture and create a subdirectory (“folder”) on your M drive of the form [firstname-lastname].  Example:  Daryl-Close.  Open that folder and create a new folder inside it named “CPS100.”  Create other folders for other courses as desired.  (ii) Send me an empty message from your Heidelberg e-mail account (required) with the following Subject line:  CPS100-0.  Don’t invent your own subject line!  Spell it exactly as shown.  You will receive an automated reply from me.  Save the message in your CPS100 folder.  Print it out and bring it to class today.
