USING WINDOWS
EXPLORER
- To get to the Windows Explorer program click START
then PROGRAMS then WINDOWS EXPLORER. A
screen similar to the one below will appear:
- The left-hand side of the screen displays all the storage areas available on you
computer. The most common is the hard drive (often labeled the C: drive).
Notice the plus and minus signs next to the drives and folders? If you click
on a plus sign, it will display the contents of that drive or folder. Clicking on a
minus sign makes the contents disappear from view.
Try it. Click on the plus sign (or minus sign) next to the C: drive. Click the
+ or - sign again. Notice how it makes the folders appear and disappear?
- In the left-hand side of the screen, if you click on a folder it will display the
contents of that folder on the right side of the screen. Try this. Find a
folder on the left side of the screen. Click on the folder. Notice that the
contents of the folder is now displayed on the right side of the screen. Also, the
folder you clicked on is now shown as an open folder. See the example below.
The selected folder on the left is open. The contents of that folder is shown
on the right. Try clicking on other folders and notice what happens.
FINDING DOWNLOADED FILES
- Using Windows Explorer, find the folder where you saved the downloaded file.
Click on the folder and the its contents will be displayed in the right-hand side
of the window. Notice the image below. On the left the Downloads folder is open.
On the right side you see the contents of that folder. These are three
downloaded files. The two that have .exe at the end of the filename
are self-extracting files (they will unzip themselves without the assitance of a program
like WinZip). Just double click these files and the process will begin
automatically.
The first file (bapproved.zip) ends with a .zip which indicates it will
need to have the WinZip in order to be unzipped. If you have the WinZip program
loaded on your computer, you will see an icon like the one next to the bapproved.zip
file. If not, you will need to get a copy of such a program in order to unzip it. Again,
double click the file and it will begin extracting the contents.
