GCIBL BOWLING:
The Greater Cleveland Interscholastic Bowling League's first day of
competition was Dec 9, 1940.
For 2011-2012, its 72st season, the GCIBL will have 12 teams:
Benedictine, Brecksville, Brookside, Central
Catholic,
Chanel, Holy Name,
Lutheran West, Olmsted Falls, St. Edward, St.
Ignatius, VA St.
Joseph, Westlake
Competition alternates weekly between
2 centers. (Standing sheet

(Scores bowled during the singles tournament do not
count toward individual records.)
OHSAA Sectional, District and State Tournament competition
participation will also be scheduled.
OHSAA's participation rules (bowlers cannot have any other
bowling activity during the period)
in 2008-09 reduced the original 20-team league, to 12 teams, as
bowlers declined to limit bowling.
League provides many opportunities to
show accomplishments.
- OHSAA scratch competition consists of a 3-game series and 2
baker-format games.
- OHSAA ranking is determined by the scratch total pins for the
5-game combination.
- All teams bowl every other team in the league, during the full
round of matches.
- Dual auxiliary matches indicate wins & losses, for both
scratch and handicap results.
- Handicap use: 100 % of (1000 - Team
Average) (Negative Value if Basis Exceeded)
League also has other distinguished
awards:
- Joe Beck Award - Senior who demonstrates best leadership,
sportsmanship, bowling ability,
- Ernie Hargett Bulldog Award - Senior who has most total games
in career, indicating tenacity,
- Sister Marie Friendship Award - for positive competitive spirit,
- Joe Costanzo Award - Points awarded for current average and
number
of quality games & series,
- Games: 1 point (200-249), 2 (250-299), 3 for
300,
- Series: 2 points (550-599), 3(600-649), 4(650-699), 5(700-749),
6(750-799), 7(800-849),
- League High Games/Series: 10 points for 1st
Place, 7 for 2nd, 5 for 3rd, 3 for 4th,1 for 5th
