Two Little Boys

by The Country Gentlemen

v.1
Two little boys had two little toys, each had a wooden horse
Gaily they played each summer's day, warriors both, of course
One little chap had a mishap and broke off his horse's head
Wept for his toy then cried with joy, when he heard his brother say

Refrain I:
Do you think I could leave you cryin' when there's room on my horse for you
Climb up here Jack, now stop your cryin', we'll mend up your horse with glue
When we grow up we'll both be soldiers and our horses will not be toys
And maybe we will remember when we were two little boys

v.2
Long years had passed, and war came at last, and bravely they marched away
Cannons roared loud amidst that wild crowd, where wounded and dyin' Joe lay
Then with a cry, a rider passed by, out from the ranks of blue
He galloped away, to where Joe lay, and Joe heard his brother say

Refrain II:
Do you think I could leave you dyin', when there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, you'll soon be flyin, with the ranks of the boys in blue
Can't you see Jack I'm all a-tremble, it may be the flash and the noise
Or it may be because I remember when we were two little boys
