There were 3 teens in house who were all due between mid-October and November 1, and so it was anyone’s guess as to who would go first, last, and in-between.

"Kelly" had her baby first, a girl named Hannah RaeAnn. She was born October 31 at Community Hospital in Coldwater, weighed 8 lbs., 2 oz., and was 20" long. Hannah was placed for adoption with Gary and Jane Cloyd and went to live with her new adoptive family on November 6.

Season successfully completed every aspect of the Harbor House program (i.e. counseling through on her choice to parent, parenting class, "bootie camp," etc.). When she finally finished her school assignments by completing driver’s education in late October, she left to live at home with her father. Her baby was born November 2. Baby girl Jasmine Marie Allen weighed 8 lbs., 1 oz. and was 20" long.

Deanna, who was due November 1 along with Season, went last and didn’t give birth until November 15. Dr. Gil Rhee induced labor at 10 AM that morning, and Daniel Johnathan was born just a few hours later. He weighed 6 lbs., 5½ oz. and was 19½" long. Deanna placed Daniel for adoption with Jeff and Donna Kephart, and he joined 5-year-old sister Sarah at home on November 20.

Kim, a client who has been participating in the "Bridges" program, but not living in-house, gave birth November 19 to a baby boy. She named him Dakota.

Kristy lived at Harbor House until her grandmother chose to allow her to come and live with her in Dayton on November 6. Kristy celebrated Thanksgiving in the hospital, as she gave birth to Kristopher Michael on November 27. He weighed 6 lbs., 1 oz. and was 19½" long. Kristy, who is parenting, will continue to participate in counseling through Harbor House.

Mary reconciled with her mother and step-father and went home on November 3. She’s due to give birth in mid-February, 1997 and is planning to parent. Mary will also continue to participate in counseling while living at home.

Jackie left for Michigan on November 18. At one point it appeared that Jackie would have to face being homeless after her baby was born. She plans to parent but her mother and father, in love, have refused to allow her to parent and to live at home. She finally found housing at Father Pat’s, a program similar to ours, but one that’s licensed to allow their residents to continue living there after the baby is born. They’ll assist Jackie in finding a job, continuing her high school education, and finding suitable day-care. Jackie is due to give birth in mid-January.

Beth made a decision to return home to her parents in Georgia, and left Harbor House on November 17. She’s planning to parent and is due in mid-March.

Pearl came to live with us on November 20. She’s 16 and is initially making plans to parent. Pearl is due to deliver in June. Her favorite activity is drawing and her hobbies include letter-writing, reading and eating. She’s been involved in pageants, gymnastics, swimming, running, and cheer-leading. Her favorite school subject is history and her favorite food is baked boneless chicken breast.

There were several teen girls who indicated while we were full that they needed housing and so we put them on a waiting list. As beds became available, we made contact with the teens again, but none of them chose to come to Harbor House.

Holly has come back to live at Harbor House again, but not as a client. She lived here (and in St. Marys, before the building was completed) during her pregnancy in 1994 and placed her baby girl Katherine for adoption. She’s now 18 and is looking for a job in the area. She plans to continue to live with Doug and Karla’s family and to help watch their children occasionally. She’s been beneficial in the past as a mentor to the teens because of her own past teen pregnancy and her decision to place for adoption.
