History

Joe Ledger was an astronaut. During a mission his capsule encountered a disabled alien spacecraft. Joe rescued the occupant, the Skrull, and brought him to Earth. Grateful, the Skrull gave him the Power Prism which now only responds to him. Joe dubbed himself Dr. Spectrum and became a costumed adventurer. He later joined the Skrull, Hyperion, Power Princess, Nighthawk, Amphibian, and the Whizzer to defeat a giant robot and formed the Squadron Supreme. Dr. Spectrum has been with the team in every known adventure.

During the final battle between the Squadron and Nighthawk's Redeemers, Dr. Spectrum faced off against the Black Archer. Spectrum could not bring himself to fire, but the Archer did. His arrow struck the power prism, causing it to explode, showering Spectrum with its particles. Spectrum's uniform and body absorbed the shards, becoming monochromatic, but gaining the power inherent in the prism.
