Meet the Artist

Hello there.

Upon arriving at this page you no doubt have a few questions:
  • What is going on with these odd little paintings of yours?
  • Why are your three styles of creating art so different from each other?
  • Why are you wearing that ridiculous hat?

To answer the first question let me preface by saying I am a true believer that subconscious thought is a leading factor in my painting.
Many times I have found myself putting unusual juxtapositioning of objects, people, animals, etc. in a painting only to realize 6 months, a year, even a few years later the reason why.

Actually, I find it far more interesting to hear others interpret my work than I do hearing myself trying to decipher it for them. The interpretations I've heard through the years have come from people's own personal experiences and philosophies on life. So each interpretation has been as unique as the interpreter. I've always felt that any one interpretation is as valid as the next.

Chronologically speaking, the pen and ink drawings were first. Largely self-taught as an artist I started by using a stippling approach. Later, after a number of multiple-hundred-hour drawings I started to incorporate a little more line work. Only to speed the process up a bit.

To take a break from this regimen I decided to experiment with color and chose acrylic paint as my medium of choice. After reading through books from the library on Surrealism I embarked on a great adventure. In search of the inner self.

Eventually, this led me to the surreal abstractions. With these paintings I was able to tickle the subconscious from another angle and not be tied to agonizing hours of capturing each and every little detail in pursuit of the "photographic look."

To answer the last question - because I can.

Below you will find a list of shows that my artwork has been in as well as awards won.

I was a Full Member of the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic from 1996 to 2003, which afforded me the opportunity to exhibit in New York City annually.
