INSTALLATION OF POWER STEERING COMPONENTS

1.  Work safely.  Make sure vehicle is on jack stands and is stationary.

2.  Check the condition of the threads.  Rode's hand tests all thread ports
and sockets as a final check out.

3.  Install and hand start components.  Rode's recommends pipe dope on hydraulic
joints [NAPA 7651188 (in the tube -- NAPA 14a)].  (Warranty is void if
     Teflon tape is used).

4.  The two hoses from the valve to the slave cylinder should be parallel (714
should be on the bottom 717 should be on top).  If the hoses are crossed,
the steering will rock back and forth.  Pressure hose 719 and return hose 713
     are sorted by port sizes.

5.  Start vehicle with front tires off the pavement (eight seconds is the
normal cycle time).  Add 1½ quarts of NAPA 75-205 or Ford type "F" or "FA"
transmission fluid, and then actuate the system.  The normal operating
temperature is 140F (can go to 170F  on a hot day).

6.  Pump pulleys must be installed with an installation tool as the pulleys are
expensive and several styles are obsolete.  Pulleys are bent regularly in
shipping no matter how securely the box has been packed.
