CULLMAN — Troy A. Crutchfield

Funeral services for Troy A. Crutchfield, 84, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Flint Creek Baptist Church, the Rev. Perry Brown officiating, with interment in the church cemetery. Mr. Crutchfield will lie in state from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crutchfield went home peacefully with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 16. He was born to Dewey C. and Edith Pope Crutchfield. He was a deacon at Flint Creek Baptist Church for 47 years. He also served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II as a top gunner on a B-24 bomber called “The Liberator.” He worked for NASA at the Marshall Space Flight Center and then transferred to Crane Naval Weapon Support Center in Crane, Ind. He retired in 1988 after 29 years in the civil service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Claud Crutchfield; and a sister, Charlcie Speegle.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Ethel Peggy Knighten Crutchfield; two sons, Gary Dale (Lisa) Crutchfield of Ohio and Randy (Lisa) Crutchfield of Indiana; a daughter, Tina (Mark) Cruger of Florida; six grandchildren, Charles, Alicia and Patricia Cruger, Jessica Crutchfield, Ansley Crutchfield and Elizabeth (Alyssa) Hughes; one great-grandson, Chester Hughes; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and special nieces; and special friend, Kim.
