A
MESSAGE FROM SALLY DAILEY . . .
I have been representing The Oasis at the "West Central Ohio Health
Ministries" organization for a few years. I plan to continue attending
and representing Faith Christian Church. This group consists of
representatives from many churches in the Lima and outreaching areas.
Some reps are nurses, some are not. We share information and ideas
regarding our churches and their members. It is important that every
person be supported physically, mentally and spiritually throughout his or
her life. I plan to use a spot on one of the bulletin boards in the
hallway each month to share some of our information with you. Keep
watching for my first appearance. And let me know what you think!
LAST MINUTE REMINDER!!!
Remember to "shop" at Lee's Chicken for your snacks or meals .
. . . until October 15th, they are donating some of their
proceeds to Family Promise.
WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY.
. .
Each week, beginning with dinner provided by various people, at 5:30
p.m. followed at 6:00 p.m. with the Bible study time. Everyone is
welcome.

Pastor James Oates
Dear Friends,
Fall is officially here and the frost on the front yard of the church lawn is a reminder that the seasons have changed, and we are headed right into a new season of the church as well. The spring and summer have been filled with the hard work of choosing a new name, writing a new Constitution/By-Laws and building relationships with each other. Prayer remains the vital link that unites us and guides us in our work and ministry together.
We have passed our Constitution/By-Laws on to the appropriate denominational officials and expect approval very soon and expect to be on the November agenda of the Presbytery for approval of our merger and Constitution/By-Laws. With all of these "official" things behind us, we are ready to move on with the task of being the church and fulfilling our mission of growing spiritually as well as numerically. We also have many tasks and things to complete as we ready for a new year in the church.
In the coming weeks, the Council/Session will be asking people to serve in various capacities within the structure of the church. In the Constitution/By-Laws, there are 4 officers, the elected officer shall be:
President
Secretary/Clerk
Treasurer
Financial Secretary
And chairpersons of the following standing committees which shall serve as members of the Council/Session:
Deacons
Worship
Christian Education
Buildings/Facilities
Daycare/Learning Center
Youth
In addition, each committee will need a minimum of three members each to carry on the functions of the committee. It is my hope that we will use the Spiritual Gifts Inventory that some of you have taken before to help guide each of us in the ways that we might serve best.
I know that many of you may not want to serve as an officer or on a committee, and that is fine as well. Together we have many things to do to answer God's call to be Christian and to be faithful. You can pray, invite someone to church, attend Sunday School and Bible Study, be engaged in worship, bring snacks, be a liturgist, usher or greeter or even a Children's Church teacher. It takes all of us, with all of our skills and abilities, gifts and talents to make Faith Christian Church the very best it can be for the glory of God. Be praying about how God might use you in this community of faith.
Blessings and Peace,
Pastor Jim Oates
FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS
For several years, we have donated food to the Shawnee/Cridersville
Food Pantry, which has recently moved to the former Calvary U. M. Church at
510 E. Sugar Street in Cridersville. We have a basket at the rear of
the sanctuary in which we leave our donations, which are taken monthly to
the Food Pantry. Last year, we donated sugar, flour, peanut butter,
jelly, canned fruits, vegetables and meats, canned and dried soups, canned
pastas, etc. Paper products are also welcomed. This pantry
serves people in the 45806 area where the need has increasingly become
larger. This pantry has recently been expanded and made into a "Choice
Pantry", which allows patrons to come through and select their own food.
It has also been renamed the CH-KI-LO Food Pantry, meaning Charity, Kindness
and Love. Although managed through the Cridersville U. M. C., other
churches in the area also contribute. In our church, the project is
coordinated by the Board of Deacons. Please help continue this
outreach to the community during their time of need. Donations may be
left in the basket anytime. We've learned just this week there are
special needs for items other than what we've been taking to them.
These include condiments (salt, pepper, catsup, mustard, mayo), health and
hygiene items (toothpaste, lotions, tooth brushes, etc.), dessert mixes such
as jell-o, pudding, cake and brownie mixes -- no already baked items; flour,
sugar and jelly. There is NO need for peanut butter -- they buy that
in bulk. Please note, we are no longer asking for canned goods.
The pantry purchases that type of food at a much lower price. No jumbo
sizes!
The Shawnee Presbyterian Deacons and The Oasis Board of Diaconate have been meeting together for several months and are working on combining and coordinating our efforts in the areas of sympathy, witness and service. One activity of community service is our ongoing support of the Shawnee/Cridersville area Food Pantry. Our donations for October through December will change to deserts, flour, sugar and jelly. Please continue to help with this project by leaving your donations in the basket at the back of the sanctuary.
The Deacons recently donated $100.00 to the Shawnee Cridersville Ministerial Association for their Community Crisis Fund, which was depleted of funds.
Thank you,
Thora Davis, Moderator
