The Book of Common Prayer contains the official liturgies
and worship of the Episcopal Church. Episcopalians worship the Lord in
common and with devotion. The laity actively participate in worship by bodily
gestures, reciting prayers, giving responses and answering every prayer
with "Amen".
Lay people also act as worship leaders, reading lessons,
leading the psalms, and assisting the priest at the altar. We stand
for praise, kneel for prayer and sit for instruction. Music is an
important part of our worship, and we enjoy many varieties of music,
from hymns and anthems to instrumentals and chanting.
