PUBLIC OUTREACH
Wayne SWCD provides
numerous opportunities for the public to learn more about
conservation and the environment.
The most recognized event is during the Wayne County Fair held
in September of every year. Visit our
FAIR BARN and you
can get educational information about our office, the
programs available, upcoming workshops, conservation farming
practices, take a guess at out our contest & see the poster
contest winners. There is also a
RAIN BARREL on display,
and information about our
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTS
we used.
Besides using rain barrels, an innovative landscaping technique
that helps reduce stormwater runoff is the rain garden.
These conservation "gardens" are growing in popularity and not
only look beautiful, but help the environment. Check out these
links to some excellent resources for starting your own
RAIN
GARDEN.
Area educators, or interested individuals are welcomed to attend
our EDUCATOR WORKSHOPS that are hosted each year.
Although the workshop agenda's vary from year to year, the
educational activities, lessons, hand-outs and free materials
make these very worth while to attend. Click here to see our
UPCOMING TEACHER WORKSHOP.
Wayne SWCD has hosted other various educational
EVENTS,
such as a Forestry Field Day, Contractor Workshops, and recently
started an Annual EQUINE OPEN-HOUSE.
In addition, the Wayne SWCD has a partnership with Holmes SWCD
in joining the Source Water Environmental Education Team ,
called SWEET. We share a ground water simulation model,
and provide educational information for special events. If you
are interested in learning more about ground water, please check
our LINKS page, and visit our watershed site.
