School Programs

The Wayne SWCD offers a variety of EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS available, at no charge for any Wayne county school or club. The Education Specialist, Kelly Riley, can be scheduled to come to your school or event and present a program.

There are also a number of TEACHER TRUNKS and Educational Kits available for loan. These trunks can help accentuate school lessons and make learning a lot more exciting!

All area schools receive the Educational newsletter, called The CONQUEST, three times during the school year. The newsletter includes program details, contest rules, workshop information, conservation education, and lists important dates for educators.

High school students with the help of a team advisor, can participate in a fun environmental education contest called the ENVIROTHON.  Wayne SWCD also helps host a county LAND JUDGING COMPETITION every September with the help of local FFA teachers.

Each year the Wayne SWCD sponsors a POSTER CONTEST for all grade level students in Wayne county. The theme changes every year in accordance to the national conservation theme. Teachers are also eligible to receive free TREE SEEDLINGS for their students, and need to call in February to place their order. The Wayne SWCD also honors an environmental EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR  at our annual meeting for local teachers.

Schools wanting outdoor learning areas can learn more about LAND LABS by contacting the Education Specialist, or by checking with other educators familiar with the idea.
