I'm researching the Wright and Hale families that first settled in the counties of Russell and Wise Virginia in the late 1700's and early 1800's.

My father's family begins with John and Martha (McLaughlin) Wright. They're  first found in the Russell Co. census about 1830. After the land they settled was taken to form Wise Co. in 1856, they are found in census records in the area of Virginia City and St. Paul.

My mother's family, Hale, was found most often in Russell Co. around the Castlewood area. They migrated from Franklin Co. Va. Other surnames in my family are Lucas, Shepherd,Silcox,Franklin,Grizzle,Mays and many others.They can be found at the link below.
