Dog Kennel, Dog Training, Dog Breeders, Labrador Retriever

Hello, Welcome to Radar Kennel

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Curt Williams owner and trainer of Radar Kennel. I have been involved with bird dogs, hunting dogs, and field dogs one all my life. I recently retired from a full time job, so I have more time to train hunting dogs daily and spend with my wife! She has stated on more than one occasion that she wished that she recieved as much attention as the dogs. I think I’m starting to win her over though, now that she is preparing to start showing. If you can’t beat’em, join’em!!!

My primary goal is dog training. I get a lot of satisfaction out of watching a dog or pup grow and mature into a hard working companion. You won’t see pages full of future German Shorthair or Pointing Labrador Retriever puppies coming from Radar Kennel. However, when you do see a German Shorthair or Pointing Labrador Retriever litter advertised you can be sure it was out of two of the best field dogs and the purpose of the breeding was for one person and one person only, me! The only problem here is that my wife will not allow me to keep all the pups. But rest assured I will keep one, two hopefully three to train and see if I’m moving in the right direction with regards to producing quality pups that meet the standard (also my standard). They must be dual purpose as well as be tremendous pets. After I’ve determined that they met the test they are usually sold into great hunting homes. But only after I’ve had time to evaluate them and analyze the pros and cons of the German Shorthair or Pointing Labrador Retriever litter.

I ‘ve had good hunting dogs, bad field dogs and everything in between! I’ve learned a lot over the years with regards to dogs and their behavioral traits. I’ve also learned that these traits are key when it comes to dog training. One set dog training method will not suffice for all dogs. There are certain basic points that must be covered in dog training but the particular hunting dog you are training will determine when and how you proceed. In our world of faster is better, some field dogs get lost in the shuffle. They cannot learn at an accelerated pace and their impatient owners or trainers don’t understand why. It’s times like this that I want to tell the owner that had he done a little better job in selecting his pup he may have been more satisfied. Key point is to know what you are getting and get the very best stock you can afford. It will be worth it in the end. Not all hunting dogs learn at the same rate. Sorry to say, some field dogs may never really learn what we want. The extra few bucks in the beginning may save you big dollars (dog training) later. Some hunting dogs mature slower than others. If you know this going into a dog training program it will also save you some time, effort and money. I’ve trained hunting dogs that, at four months of age, were more mentally prepared to learn than hunting dogs three times their age. That’s not to say that they were better, they just matured faster. Also, I’m not saying that the most expensive hunting dog will be the best!

If, by chance, you have a question pertaining to dog training, feel free to call or write and I will try to give you whatever info I can to help out. I admire anyone who gets involved with his or her dog. It’s good for the dog and also good for the owner. It isn’t always easy but it is always rewarding. We all take pride in our German Shorthair and Pointing Labrador Retriever hunting dogs. If not, we should! They’re wonderful companions as well as loyal friends. With a little patience, love and guiding the German Shorthair and Pointing Labrador Retriever hunting dogs fit nicely into our lives and fill voids that we could never really imagine.

Thanks for stopping in; hopefully I can be of some help in your future plans with regards to purchasing, raising, or training your hunting dog in the future.
